Obama speaks at La Raza Hispanic activists conference on Monday, July 25, 2011
(once again he is seeking their vote -- legal or otherwise ;- )
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama called on Hispanic activists Monday to build a movement outside Washington to push for overhauling immigration, saying he can't do it by himself and Republicans aren't playing along. He said he remains committed to his unfulfilled promise to rewrite the nation's immigration laws to offer a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants. But he offered no timelines as he spoke at the annual conference of a major Hispanic civil rights organization, the National Council of La Raza, and prospects for congressional action are bleak. RNC Launches Fourth ‘Change Direction’ Television Ad, Hispanic Radio Spot In Florida
WASHINGTON-The Republican National Committee (RNC) released the final television ad today in its month-long “Change Direction” economic messaging campaign drawing attention to President Obama’s failure to lead on the economy and reduce spending. The ad paints a stark picture of what the American economy could look like after 8 years of President Obama’s destructive leadership. It is becoming painfully obvious that four more years of record unemployment and record debt will result in an unrecognizable and greatly diminished United States of America.
The RNC is taking the fight to the president, airing the ad in key battleground states where he is vulnerable: Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana, Ohio and Iowa – all states he won in 2008 but will struggle to defend in 2012. A Spanish radio ad will accompany the television buy in Florida. The fourth television ad can be viewed here http://bit.ly/qCq6ax. The radio spot in Spanish can be heard here http://bit.ly/oFvEII -- Read more and view video

▪ Herman Cain proving to be real contender |

"Longshot candidate’ now in third place in recent Iowa poll."
By Bill Torpy - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
. . Now, with a little more than six months to go before the Iowa caucuses, Cain has managed to garner a third-place finish among Republicans, behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, in the Des Moines Register’s first poll. And that unexpected accomplishment has some of those same doubters paying a bit more attention. ▪ Herman Cain Preaches at Crystal Cathedral in California.
Personal Note: During Herman's 2004 campaign for U.S. Senate, I tuned in to the Crystal Cathedral Ministries in Garden Grove, CA one Sunday morning thinking that I would listen to Rev. Robert Schuller. Much to my surprise our Herman Cain of Georgia was filling in for Dr. Schuller and delivered the message that morning -- and what a powerful message! He could easily become a full time minister.
Herman is the personification of the Power of Positive Thinking whether on the campaign trail, in business, in the pulpit or in a debate. Is there no limit to this man's talents? I hear that he even does a mean moon walk. ;- )
Bettye Chambers, Buford, GA
▪ Two ways we can help Herman RIGHT NOW!
1. E-mail and talk to all of your friends about voting for Herman Cain.
2. Herman needs your small (or large) donation right now to help with expenses in Iowa.
In just 30 days all eyes will be focused on Ames, Iowa, for the 2011 Republican Presidential Straw Poll. This is considered the first true test of a campaign's organizational strength. I plan on sending in my little donation of $50 and hope you will send in your contribution, also. Visit this web page for more information.

Next month, state lawmakers will gather again in Atlanta to redraw Georgia’s political boundaries. In summer hearings across the state, this legislator and that one has sworn to eschew crass partisanship. Keeping like-minded voters together in new House, Senate an d congressional districts will be topmost in their minds. If you believe that, please send the number of your checking account as soon as possible. . . Every sketch of a 14th District presumes that Hall County will serve as its base. Gov. Nathan Deal has a house in Gainesville. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle lives there. Fannin County, home to House Speaker David Ralston, is only a short drive up the road. Read more |

Reports
▪
Governor
releases
report on
Atlanta
Public
School
investigation
|
By Associated Press
For the AJC
Buy Wednesday’s AJC in print for an in-depth report from the team that broke the story on cheating in Atlanta public schools in 2008. Here’s some of what we’ll be reporting:
The report describes an enterprise where unethical – and potentially illegal – behavior pierced every level of the district. At Parks Middle School, the percentage of eighth-graders exceeding expectations rose from 1 percent to 46 percent in one year. Now, state investigators accuse more educators of cheating at Parks than any other school. State investigators found cheating at 44 of 56 schools they looked at. We’ll publish the list.

Another shinning example of what has gone wrong in our public school systems -- or government schools as Neal Boortz calls them. As a former teacher, this report is not surprising. Long before I retired evidence was mounting regarding the very ineffective job in education in DeKalb County
-- and APS was even worse.Rarely do I agree with Mike Luckovich on anything, but this time, I do ;- ) See his cartoon below.

Herman Cain Wins Cobb Presidential reference Straw Poll at
July 4th CelebrationWe conducted a Presidential Preference Straw Poll at the July 4th Celebration and BBQ yesterday. Although the Marietta Daily Journal carried a really good article on the event and gave the results of the poll, many people have been emailing me today asking for the results. So, here they are:
Herman Cain - 43%
Newt Gingrich - 14%
Michele Bachmann - 13%
Rick Perry - 10%
Mitt Romney - 8%
Tim Pawlenty - 5%
Ron Paul - 3.5%
Sarah Palin - 3%
Rick Santorum and Gary Johnson received 1 vote each.
Also on the Straw Poll ballot were Jon Huntsman, Thaddeus McCotter and Buddy Roemer. No votes were cast for any one of these three.
I know that some of you are wandering why we included people who are not officially running. Realizing that straw polls are not scientific, we decided to be all-inclusive to include anyone who may just be thinking about running.
I hope you find this information helpful.
